As part of the process of drafting the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development of Serbia on June 25th, 2018 in Belgrade, a workshop was held on the topic of funding sources for urban development. Representatives of ministries, local self-governments, national organizations, public and private urban companies, regional development agencies and international programs – from Arandjelovac, Belgrade, Kragujevac, Kraljevo and Uzice – took part in the work. The gathering was opened by Dr. Siniša Trkulja, an advisor at the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

A national consultant, Drago Babić, held a presentation on the available sources of financing. After the first steps in the implementation of the Integrated Urban Development Strategies of Kragujevac, Uzice and Kraljevo, where various sources of financing have already been applied, a discussion has been opened.The workshop participants largely confirmed the proposals, but also pointed to additional opportunities that are being applied or can be applied as a financial support to urban development. In relation to the priority thematic areas of intervention — Industrial and commercial zones and brownfield locations- Uncontrolled urban sprawl and degradation of rural areas- Endangered urban structures, urban matrices and central urban zones- Parts of an urban settlement with a concentration of social problems – social inclusion and poverty reduction- Settlements or parts of settlements exposed to problems of environmental protection and climate change- Spatial units with cultural and architectural heritage, important cultural and historical development of urban settlement ,are indicated as those already in use, as well as possible national and international sources of funding – European Union funds, international financial instruments – banks, bilateral and multilateral cooperation and donors.

Following the correction of the material according to the given suggestions, the next workshop with members of the wider Working Team was planned in early July 2018.
